Licensing
last updated: 13 August 2026
amtekkie ships a few different kinds of things, and each kind is licensed differently. This page sets out the terms that apply. The specific product page or invoice always wins if it says something more specific. Where code is involved, the licence file inside the repository is authoritative.
1. Free products
Free products — open-source tools, scripts, and downloads offered at no cost — are generally released under the MIT Licence or the GNU General Public Licence v2.0 (GPL-2.0), as stated in each product's repository or download.
- You may use, copy, modify, and redistribute the code, including in commercial projects, subject to the licence terms.
- GPL-2.0 items must keep the source available and the licence intact when distributed; MIT items require the copyright notice and licence text to be included.
- Attribution is appreciated but (for MIT) not legally required.
- Provided "as is," with no warranty — see clause 6 of the Terms of Service.
2. Paid products
Paid digital products (plugins, tools, downloads sold through the shop) are licensed, not sold. You get a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the product as set out below.
- Single-site licence — install and use on one website/domain you own or control.
- Multi-site licence (where offered) — install and use on up to the stated number of websites/domains you own or control.
- You may not resell, redistribute, sublicense, or share the product files, in whole or in part, including on " GPL" marketplaces or file-sharing sites.
- You may modify the code for your own use, but you may not resell or distribute the modified version.
- Updates and support are included for 12 months from purchase; after that you can renew to keep receiving updates.
- Refunds follow the Terms of Service — if it's broken or not as described, email us.
3. Premade themes & plugins
Off-the-shelf WordPress themes and plugins sold by amtekkie.
Themes
WordPress themes are licensed under the GPL-2.0 (or later). The PHP and template code is GPL; you're free to modify and reuse the code under the GPL. The package you buy from us is the convenient, supported, updated distribution — the GPL rights to the code itself always remain.
Plugins
Premade plugins are proprietary and sold under amtekkie's standard paid-product EULA (see section 2): single-site or multi-site, no resale or redistribution, 12 months of updates. Plugin code may be modified for your own use but not redistributed.
4. Custom solutions
Custom work — bespoke themes, plugins, apps, integrations, or consulting built to your spec — is delivered under work-for-hire terms, set out in the project proposal or contract:
- IP assignment — on full payment, the intellectual property in the custom deliverable transfers to you, unless we've agreed otherwise in writing (some shared libraries remain amtekkie's to reuse).
- Delivery — built and delivered in agreed milestones; source is handed over in a Git repository.
- Support window — bugs caused by our work are fixed free for 30 days after final delivery; ongoing maintenance is a separate, optional engagement.
- Third-party code — any open-source libraries used keep their own licences.
- Deposit and cancellation terms are as stated in the proposal.
5. Premade apps & software
Standalone applications and software (desktop tools, scripts packaged as apps, control-panel software) are sold under a perpetual per-seat licence:
- Per-seat — one licence per installation per person, unless a team/site licence is purchased.
- Perpetual — the version you bought keeps working; it doesn't expire (though it may stop receiving updates after the included period).
- You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software beyond what's needed for interoperability as permitted by law.
- You may not resell, rent, lease, or redistribute the software or your licence key.
- Provided "as is," with no warranty — see clause 6 of the Terms of Service.
6. Attribution & branding
A small "built by amtekkie" credit may be present in theme/plugin footers or admin screens. You're welcome to remove visible credits from your own site; please don't remove copyright or licence notices inside source files.
